Section 8
A federally-funded rental assistance program where applicants who receive vouchers from the City Housing Authority must find a privately owned dwelling in the city whose owner is willing to participate in the program. The individual/family pays a certain percentage of their income for rent and utilities. The Authority pays the balance directly to the property owner. Units are inspected once a year. Programs within Section 8: - Family Self-sufficiency Program provides case management that assists families in becoming self-sufficient and can aid in the transition from welfare to work. It is a voluntary program.
