Develops and administers educational policies to improve the quality of education in Pennsylvania. Conducts programs to assess progress toward basic and higher education goals established by the General Assembly, the Governor, and the State Board of Education. Provides advice and recommendations on education to the General Assembly and administers education laws and regulations approved by the Governor and the federal government. Oversees implementation of standards established by the Secretary of Education. Cooperates in developing and administering master plans for basic and higher education. Manages a system of pre-service education and in-service professional development to ensure high-quality personnel in early childhood, elementary, and secondary education.
