Provides legal counsel and representation for Lancaster County defendants in criminal court for summary offenses, misdemeanors and felonies. Services are provided from arrest to trial, including probation and parole violation hearings and appeals. Also provides defense representation in paternity and protection from abuse cases. Provides legal representation for juveniles in court.

The County acts as an agent of the Commonwealth for those functions which are specified by State law. To carry out those functions, three County Commissioners are elected every four years. The Commissioners serve as the managers and administrators of County government, name citizens to boards, commissions and authorities and award contracts.
