Eligibility

To have access to the shelter program, you must be: A) Adults age 18 and older B) Experiencing homelessness

Hours

December 1 through March 31: Monday through Sunday, 8:30pm to 7:00am

Application process

Must call by 2:00pm daily to preregister. Call 717-448-8850 or 717-249-1009 ext. 2221 to confirm space and pre-register. Enter from the West Street entrance. Doors open at 8:30pm for check-in, which runs from 8:30pm to 9:30pm (no arrivals after 9:30pm unless prearranged for work purposes only) and check-out/Exit is by 7:00am.

Description

Provides a winter shelter for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Cumberland County, offering life-saving refuge during freezing temperatures and severe weather conditions to ensure no one in the community is left exposed to the dangers of cold, wind, or snow. Offers snacks and hot drinks nightly and hot food when available.

Maintains the mission of serving and strengthening the community by providing emergency shelter, resources, and supportive services to individuals and families at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Provides the following: Men & Women's Congregational Shelter in Carlisle (7:00am-8:30pm; use day center at 50 W Penn Street Carlisle overnight shelter, 9:00pm-7:00am); Family Shelter with private rooms located at 206 E Burd Street; Winter Shelter, Dec 1 - Mar 31 located at 201 W Louther Street Carlisle, 8:30pm - 7:00am; Street Outreach connecting with unsheltered in Cumberland County; Day Center for unsheltered (For showers, laundry, supplies, snacks, etc.) Open for unsheltered any day of week 9:00am-12:00pm and 3:00pm-5:00pm; Coordinated Entry Site for Cumberland County, Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm and Saturday, 8:00am-11:00am; and Homeless Prevention Funds are used to divert and quickly move from homelessness. Funding for rental arrears, deposit, first month's rent, transportation to divert homelessness, and housing search applications. (all funding dependent).
