Eligibility

Open to the general public for the authentication of federal documents for use outside the United States. Apostilles are issued documents to be used in countries in the 1961 Hague Convention Treaty. Authetnication certificates are for documents to be used in all other countries. Visit the elgibility website to view the list of Hague Convention countries to determine the type of certificate to request.

Phone/Office Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:45pm Drop Off and Pick Up In Person: Monday through Thursday, 7:30am to 9:30am Appointments for Life or Death Emergencies ONLY: Monday through Thursday, 10:00am to 2:30pm

Application process

Traveling in 5+ Weeks: Apply by mail. Documents processed within five weeks of date received. Traveling in 2 to 3 Weeks: Visit the office office to drop off and pick up. Documents processed within seven business days. Traveling in Less than 2 Weeks: You may qualify for an appointment if you need to travel to a foreign country in the next two weeks because your immediate family member outside of the United States has a life-or-death emergency. Documents are processed the same day as the appointment. Visit the website for additional information.

Fees

$20 per document. Pay by check or money order for mail-in requests. In-person requests must be paid by credit or debit card or a contactless form of payment (such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.).
