Only open to women. Requirements for programming are: involvement in the life skill/parenting classes, meetings, or other group activities in the prison on a consistent basis, expressed desire to make life changes and willingness to work with the assigned caseworker and art therapist, evaluation/assessment by a drug and alcohol counselor, personal recovery plan and willingness to enroll in drug or alcohol rehab if necessary Positive evaluation from prison personnel, art therapist, and drug and alcohol counselor, and potential to be employed in volunteer services.

Description

In partnership with other agencies, operates a transitional housing program for women leaving prison. The program identifies women from the Lackawanna County Prison who might effectively use this opportunity to change the direction of their lives, and offers alternative housing options and support services for up to one year. The ultimate goal of this program is to empower women to sustain independent living following their release from prison. Services include: group sessions in pre-release phase, intensive case management, assistance in finding safe housing, setting measurable goals with each client, assistance in finding employment and job training, rental assistance up to one year, assistance in moving, procuring furniture and personal supplies, art therapy, linkages to community services, assistance in being reunited with children, and recreational activities. All services are provided free of charge.

A non-profit, charitable organization, run entirely by volunteers. Provides for basic needs with food, clothing, emergency assistance, household items, and furniture. In addition, hosts events that bring hope and brighten up the holidays. Serves a wide range of people through senior holiday dinners to children's after school programs and field trips. Serves those experiencing homelessness in Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties.
