Provides loans to very-low-income homeowners to repair, improve, or modernize their homes, or provides grants to elderly, very-low-income homeowners to remove health and safety hazards.

Application process

Contact the local Rural Development office and talk with an area office-based USDA home loan specialist for help with the application, to answer questions, and more information on how to get started. Visit the link below for the application and to complete all the forms on the USDA's website.

Fee

Full title service is required for loans of $7,500 or more

Eligibility

To qualify, you must: A) Be the homeowner and occupy the house B) Be unable to obtain affordable credit elsewhere C) Have a family income within the very-low-income limit D) For grants, be age 62 or older E) Properties must be located in an eligible rural area; visit the USDA Income and Property Eligibility website below for complete details.
