Duties of the Sheriff -To enforce all orders of the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas . To serve bench warrants, civil writs and protection from abuse orders . The Williamsport Police Department Records Bureau is responsible for the maintenance of all reports (e.g. incident reports), the storage and safekeeping of all evidence and property, the completion of criminal background checks, and the processing of requests for copies of police reports and records. They do not furnish copies of criminal reports, however, in the event of loss due to theft, burglary, etc. will complete a verification that includes the date reported, location, time reported, victim, incident number, and officer taking the report.

Oversees Northampton County operations, including administration/human resources, economic development, corrections, court services, fiscal affairs, human services, public works, and the offices of the Coroner, Public Defender, Sheriff.

Prepares and maintains the records for the Criminal Division of the Court of Common Pleas. Collects fines and costs for criminal convictions of Court of Common Pleas. Maintains road dockets and Liquor Control Board appeals. Maintains the road docket for all municipal subdivisions. Prepares all commitments for defendants taken into custody. Provide courtroom clerk for judges of the criminal divisions.

Manages background investigations and supervision of offenders. Collects monies from all probation, parole, ARD, PWOV, Community Service sentences. Provides a sexual offender program and ARD expungement.

Ensures that all court records and applicable documents are indexed, docketed, processed, recorded, and microfilmed on a timely basis in compliance with state requirements and guidelines. Legal documents processed include appeals, transcripts, assighments, petitions and injunctions, arraignments, criminal searches, divorce complaints, change of name petitions, writs and executions, bail processing, judgments and liens, criminal final bills of costs, custody and support, building agreements, protection from abuse petitions, applications and renewals of applications, juvenile/dependency matters, private detective licenses. They also process passport aplications and aid the public with genealogical research and retrieval of documents from the office archives.

Offers county operations, including administration/human resources, economic development, corrections, court services, fiscal affairs, human services, public works, and the offices of the Coroner, Public Defender, Sheriff, and Solicitor. Information on county services.

Responsibilities include: - Investigation of criminal activities - Investigation of vehicle accidents - Promote traffic safety, enforce statutes, eliminate traffic hazards and encourage motorists to practice safe driving techniques. - Assistance in locating missing persons - Community presentations on traffic safety and crime-related subjects - Liquor Control Enforcement Hotline is used to report underage drinking on licensed or unlicensed premises. All reports, anonymous or otherwise, will be investigated. - Sponsors Camp Cadet for Lancaster County youth ages 11 - 13 years. A week long residential summer camp program which gives youth an opportunity to know and learn about law enforcement activities.
