The Register and Recorder’s Office is the repository and record manager for all papers relating to wills and estates as well as all real estate transactions. It is responsible for filing all papers in reference to the probate of wills and estates and all other related documents, and collects and processes Pennsylvania Inheritance Tax returns. Also records all documents pertaining to land and property transactions, including deeds, mortgages, leases, financing statements and rights of way.

The Register of Wills office serves many purposes: probate of wills of deceased residents of Snyder County; appointment of estates of individuals without a will; and maintenance of records pertaining to estates. The Recorder of Deeds is responsible for the preservation of records relating to real property in the county, and as such is required to record and affix the Recorder of Deeds seal on all recorded deeds, mortgages, subdivision plans, and all other records relating to property ownership.
