The Office of the Sheriff is a full service law enforcement agency functioning 24-7. The office is responsible for providing security for the courts and its eight judges. The Sheriff has created a Junior Deputy Program to expose students to the risks of breaking the law. The office provides the D.A.R.E. program in the Scranton schools to teach students the dangers of drug abuse.

Contacts older adults and individuals with disabilities during weather and community emergencies to see if they need assistance. Services could include grocery shopping, snow shoveling, or delivering medicine.

Implements programs to help protect citizens and property from crime. The Crime Prevention Unit is also responsible for the Civic Association Liaison Program. Through this program an officer attends Civic Association meetings, listens to residents concerns and advises residents on criminal activity in the area. Officers in the Crime Prevention Unit are frequently called upon to speak to groups about a variety of law enforcement issues.
