The duties of the Clerk of Orphans' Court include: filing petitions for incapacitated persons and petitions for the appointment of guardians for minors, petitions for adoptions (which records are confidential), the granting of marriage licenses, and records of births and deaths from 1893 through 1906.
Birth and death records of persons born after 1906 are on file with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Division of Vital Records, New Castle, Pa 16103. Phone: (724) 656-3100. This office is also responsible in assisting the Judge of Orphans' Court during court proceedings as well as the documents pertaining to those proceedings.
As register of wills, this office has jurisdiction over the probate of wills and the granting of letters of testamentary and letters of administration to persons properly
