Protection of human rights for any persons with mental illness hospitalized at Warren State Hospital. Services available to patients and families. Advocate is also available for consultation to Warren State Hospital staff and administration. Limited service is available to ex-patients who have returned to their communities.

Works to increase awareness of the mental health needs of seniors and urges community and government leaders to develop mental health services that can meet those needs. In addition, the program assists seniors, the families and caregivers during the navigation process of mental health services.

Provides one-on-one assistance to help patients, caregivers or providers resolve many different types of healthcare issues impacting care.

Provides advocacy for people with disabilities and their families by monitoring and taking action to assure personal rights; acting as an impartial source of assistance for conflict resolution; evaluating the adequacy of policies, procedures and services; providing individual training and consultation; and providing referrals for legal information and services.

Monitors the treatment, services, discharge planning and benefit information (such as Social Security and Medicaid) provided to inpatients by Norristown State Hospital. Advocates work on the patients' behalf or refer patients' to attorneys or outside agencies that specialize in mental health advocacy and/or law. Advocates also work with the offices of mental health in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties to make sure that appropriate housing and programs are available to meet the needs of patients once they leave the state hospital. The service works to identify and resolve problems in the mental health system through public policy initiatives.
