The Home Safe Home Young Adventurers Club is a burn and fire prevention program for preschool children ages 3-5, and their parents.
The Home Safe Home Young Adventurers Club classes are taught in Pennyslvania-based early learning centers by BPN’s trained regional Prevention Outreach Coordinators. Participating early learning center classrooms receive one of two 45-minute in-person lessons - either "What's Hot/What's Not" or "Firefighters Are Your Friend". These two age-appropriate lessons teach beginning fire and burn safety. Classrooms also receive a themed safety poster, fire helmets for all the kids, a Flick the Firefly picture book for the classroom, a take home parent letter with safety tips (in English and Spanish), and a take home activity sheet the child can do with family.
Early learning centers will then receive emailed newsletters with seasonal and timely reinforcing fire and burn safety information and activities they can do in the classroom or forward to parents for family activities. With this redesigned program focused on changing parental behavior and creating a network of interactive learning for the duration of preschool years, we can help families integrate burn prevention behaviors into their daily lives and ultimately, reduce the number of children in the Pennsylvania under the age of 5 who are burned.
