Provides specialized equipment to eligible Pennsylvanians who have disabilities which prevent them from using regular telephone equipment. Types of equipment available include amplified telephones, voice carry over (VCO) telephones, teletypewriters (TTYs), hearing carry over (HCO) telephones, CapTel telephones, speakerphones, voice-activated dialers, hands-free headsets, picture phones, electronic aids, and signaling devices.

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services of Roads to Freedom Center for Independent Living of North Central PA, offers:Resources/training related to language translation, housing, income benefits, mobility/transportation, education, communication, assistive technology, advocacy, budgeting, household management, mentoring, and socialization/recreation geared toward persons who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Sign Language Instruction. Assistance with obtaining an Interpreter/Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART). Instruction of the Pennsylvania Driver's Manual. Public awareness/sensitivity training regarding persons who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Information about Videophones/Video Relay Interpreting Services and resources on how to go about getting a videophone. Assistance with getting equipment via the TDDP such as a TTY, CapTel, amplified telephone, etc. A New Start program through Roads to Freedom, an Assistive Technology reuse/recycle program, may be able to provide donated equipment.

Offers assistive technology programs and projects including TechOWL (Terchnology for Our Whole Lives), formerly known as Pennsylvania’s Initiative on Assistive Technology (PIAT). PIAT is Pennsylvania’s Assistive Technology (AT) Act Program. PIAT and the other assistive technology programs and projects create TechOWL - Technology for Our Whole Lives. Assistive technology programs at CLASS include: free, accessible land line phone devices for those who qualify; short-term rentals of assistive technology equipment; assistive technology device demonstrations, and a free statewide classified listing of devices for sale and wanted by individuals.

Serves as an Assistive Technology Resource Center (ATRC). Assists consumers looking for Assistive Technology devices and information to increase their independence. Distributes devices through the Telecommunication Device Distribution Program (TDDP) and Assistive Technology Lending Library. Also maintains a Reuse Program where consumers can borrow equipment when in need.

Provides Free Special Phones are for people who have difficulty hearing, talking, seeing, thinking or moving. Some people start having trouble as they get older or after an accident. Other people have always had a disability. Disabilities include deafness, hearing loss, speech impairment, blindness or have visual problems as well as physical or intellectual disabilities.

Assistive Technology Lending Library a free, statewide program through which individuals can borrow different types of devices to find what works best for them. Choose up to five items and we will ship items to you at no cost. If the item is checked out or not available, we will get it touch with you and give you some options. Most items are on loan for 2 weeks but check our catalog for the loan length of specific items.
