The WCU Community Mental Health Services (CMHS) is affiliated with the West Chester University Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) Program. We are a training center for doctoral students in the PsyD Program providing high quality and low cost Psychotherapy and Testing for the community. Student Clinicians are supervised by licensed psychologists and serve children, adolescents and adults from all backgrounds. We provide general mental health services and specialize in trauma-related disorders and child & adolescent mental health. Coordinates with other social service agencies that provide assistance with health, finances, housing, drug/alcohol treatment, support groups, children's services, employment/training, food, furniture, clothing, and more. Provides referral and support services, child therapy, and the W.E.A.V.E. (Women's Empowerment Against Violent Environments) adult support group, which includes free childcare during group sessions. Delivers community education for all groups, including educational speakers and age-appropriate outreach materials. Provides accompaniment and/or transportation to appointments/hearings, including civil and criminal hearings. Offers a variety of mental health services to help children and adults through our Outpatient Clinic. Most services are available at both locations (Rosemont and Southwest Philadelphia). Credentialed therapists use a number of strategies to help families and children including: A) Individual Therapy: talk or play therapy or a combination of both B) Family Therapy: family members working together to solve problems that are affecting their children C) Specialized therapies such as Parent Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT), designed to help parents of young children develop skills to improve the parent-child relationship D) Evaluation with a psychiatrist or psychologist: allows staff and families to define services that a child needs. E) Medication can be prescribed by the psychiatrist and monitored with monthly medication checks.
