Family Service Association of Northeastern PA - Turning Points Program

“Turning Points” is a group curriculum for women who have been violent in their intimate partner relationships. The curriculum is designed in such a way as to draw on their strengths, providing education and support and helping them envision a future that is free of both their violence and that of their abusers (if applicable). This program promotes collaboration between law enforcement agencies, the courts, and community agencies to end family violence. The “Turning Points” Program consists of : A comprehensive evaluation in which individual appropriateness for the program is determined. . A 27 week (length of program is dependent on group size) educational program for women.

Transitions of PA - Abuse Counseling

Provides trained advocates that provide supportive listening and short-term counseling to help explore and consider options. They also provide information and referrals to other agencies where more help is available. Child care is provided while parents are learning to help themselves. Counseling is also available for victims under 18 whose lives have been affected by sexual assault and/or violence in the home. There are support groups and special activities for younger children.

The Men Against Abuse Program (MAAP) is a 26-30 week long batterers intervention program for perpetrators of domestic violence. The program meets on a weekly basis and is designed to facilitate men in changing abusive and violent behaviors which are often directed at their loved ones.

Provides a 24-hour confidential, domestic violence support hotline. Makes referrals for temporary or emergency safe shelter. Offers legal advocacy, including assistance with filing a Protection From Abuse Order. Coordinates with other social service agencies that provide assistance with health, finances, housing, drug/alcohol treatment, support groups, children's services, employment/training, food, furniture, clothing, and more. Provides referral and support services, child therapy, and the W.E.A.V.E. (Women's Empowerment Against Violent Environments) adult support group, which includes free childcare during group sessions. Delivers community education for all groups, including educational speakers and age-appropriate outreach materials. Provides accompaniment and/or transportation to appointments/hearings, including civil and criminal hearings.
