You and your family will meet privately with a child psychiatrist. A child psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in helping children and adolescents with mental health problems. You and your family will discuss, with your psychiatrist, your concerns and difficulties you are experiencing. You will receive a comprehensive evaluation to determine if medication could help you manage some of the symptoms you are experiencing. If medication is recommended it will be discussed with you and your family. Everyone must consent to the medication before it can begin. You and your family are free to accept or decline the psychiatristâs recommendation. If you decide to take medication, the psychiatrist becomes a member of your treatment team and will meet with you on a regular basis to monitor your progress. You and your family can continue to receive other PATH services that are recommended by your treatment team.
