The Department of Elections in Lackawanna County is responsible for the administration of Elections in the County. Our responsibilities include registering voters, compiling and maintaining the registration of all voters. We prepare and publish notices of Elections, conduct Federal, State & County Elections. The office also accepts and verifies nomination petitions, prepare lists of offices for which candidates are to be nominated, administer the campaign expenditure act.

Tax Claim - Administers collection of all delinquent real estate taxes owed to County and local taxing authorities. Set up payment plans for qualified individuals. Accepts and applies payment. Disburse monies collected to appropriate taxing districts. Receives and releases all payments made on behalf of the County. Exists to serve citizens by educating and addressing municipal questions and needs. This can be done in one of three ways: through their Treasury Office, Call Center or Website.

• Treasury Office: Accepts payment of all City of Reading bills and fees except water (RAWA) bills and property taxes. Allows walk-ins and processes payments received by all City of Reading departments. Additionally, Treasury posts payments to applicable accounts, and provides account balances upon request.
• Call Center: Manages the city toll-free phone number. Answers citizens questions and responds to citizens request. Log missed trash and recycling occurrences. Accept calls in English and Spanish. Provides guidance and information pertaining to election and voter registration procedures. Also, provides mandated services and is responsible for registering voters and conducting Federal, State, County and local elections. Compiles and maintains the registration of all voters for use at all elections; prepare and publish notices of elections and lists of offices for which candidates are to be nominated; accept and verify nomination petitions; prepare official and specimen ballots and administer the campaign expenditure act. Responsible for establishing voting precincts and locations of polling places for each voting precinct; training of election officers to staff the polls on election day and preparing all election supplies to be used at the polls on election day.
