In addition to offering a 2-1-1 information and referral service, a volunteer center, and free tax preparation services for low income workers, United Way fosters collaborations between nonprofit organizations, healthcare providers, schools, faith-based groups, businesses, and government. United Way and its supporters create lasting change in Lancaster County, achieving results that no single organization or sector could accomplish alone.

Coordinates with other social service agencies that provide assistance with health, finances, housing, drug/alcohol treatment, support groups, children's services, employment/training, food, furniture, clothing, and more. Provides referral and support services, child therapy, and the W.E.A.V.E. (Women's Empowerment Against Violent Environments) adult support group, which includes free childcare during group sessions. Delivers community education for all groups, including educational speakers and age-appropriate outreach materials. Provides accompaniment and/or transportation to appointments/hearings, including civil and criminal hearings. Greater Erie Community Action Committee - Foster Grandparent Program
Foster Grandparents are role models, mentors, and tutors to at-risk children in an educational setting. The program provides a way for volunteers to stay active by serving children and youth in their communities.
All one needs to join is the ability to give the kind of comfort and love that sets a child on the path toward a successful future. If individuals are 55 or older and want to share their experience and compassion, then they have what it takes to be a Foster Grandparent. GECAC will provide a stipend or other benefits that enable individuals to participate as Foster Grandparents without cost to themselves
.

The shelter takes in stray or lost animals at no charge and accepts pet animals for a surrender fee. Once the animals are signed over to the shelter the staff takes on the responsibility of finding loving new homes or the owner of those animals that have been lost.

ThinkBIG - Pediatric Cancer Fund
Supports families of pediatric cancer patients throughout central and northeast Pennsylvania. Unlike other funds, 90% of the money donated to ThinkBIG goes directly towards supporting families. ThinkBIG does not pay the salary of patient care providers, provide funds to support renovations to the local children's hospital, or allocate money to pediatric cancer research.
