Outreach staff work to build trust with those experiencing homelessness first by helping to meet some of their basic needs (including providing a mailing address to receive mail, food, clothing, showers, laundry, transportation, identification, etc.). The street reach coordinator collaborates with everyone to access housing, employment, medical care, mental health care, substance abuse treatment, and other services while advocating for housing solutions for clients. Offers showers and laundry any day of the week from 9:00am to 12:00pm and 3:00pm to 5:00pm. There is a sign-up sheet out front and then admitted into the building into the lobby to wait for the shower time. Coffee and snacks, free clothing bins, winter coats, tents, sleeping bags, and mail pick-up are also being served while waiting.

Provides winter outerwear items for children (up to 18 years old) and seniors (62+) from low-income households. Seasonal only.

Collects donations of new or gently used winter clothing for local residents in need. All coats received are cleaned and then are made available to anyone in need of winter clothing.

Elementary students are introduced to The Nurse’s Pantry through school nurses, principals and guidance counselors. In addition to attire, The Nurse’s Pantry also provides hygiene items, appropriate footwear, outerwear, undergarments, and lice treatment kits. The United Way has created and facilitates The Nurse’s Pantry in 34 schools throughout the Wyoming Valley.
