The Lackawanna County Domestic Relations Section is responsible for working with families to establish and enforce support obligations for children and spouses.

Assists in opening new cases involving paternity establishment and child and/or spousal support. Enforces those orders, collects and disburses support payments. If someone is not sure that he is the biological father of a child, the Court will order genetic testing. Attempts to locate absent parents.

The child support enforcement unit of the Court of Common Pleas. Officers receive initial child and spousal support complaints, conduct paternity investigations, conduct support conferences, receive and process changes in circumstances rendering modification, enforce existing support orders, and initiate or receive and process registration of foreign Court Orders.

Work-related topics include family and medical leave, sexual harassment, and employment discrimination. Counselors use the resource database to refer callers to other agencies that may be able to help them. If desired, counselors mail free written materials to callers regarding the areas of concern for them.
