Telehealth: As a convenience to our patients, some services are offered by electronic means. Individual or group appointments may be performed via video to the Lebanon VAMC or other medical facility. Also, various tests can now be performed at any one of the six outpatient clinics, with the analysis being performed at the Lebanon VAMC or other medical facility. The Women Veteran Program Manager is available as an advocate, adviser and navigator to connect women Veterans with the right services - including primary care, urgent care, gender specific care, and mental/behavioral health care.

Genetic testing is done to detect possible genetic defects that place family members at a far higher risk for developing either breast or ovarian cancer, or both. Both men and women can have this defect and can pass it on down to their children. As part of the process, there is a discussion on all the options available to the patient if she decides to have the test and it comes back positive. Blood is drawn and results are typically back in four to six weeks.

Minimally invasive procedures allow a doctor to remove most breast tumors through an incision that measures less than one-eighth of an inch-smaller than a fingertip. The procedure takes only one-half hour to 45 minutes and is done at the Kathryn Candor Lundy Breast Health Center. The two types of surgeries are Ultrasound Mammotomy, and Stereotactic Mammotomy.

A physician or nurse practitioner will conduct the medical examination. They will check for any problems, including signs of STDs. If you are a woman, they will also do a Pap Smear to test for abnormal cells that can lead to cancer.
