Community CARES - Family Shelter (FS)

Provides a safe and warm emergency shelter that houses up to 12 families. The shelter is a temporary home until the parents can get back on their feet. CARES provides case management, life skills classes, employment search support, parenting classes, and children’s activities. Our team also provides linkage to independent housing, benefits acquisition, and healthcare services for up to 90 days. Family shelter is located in Shippensburg, PA, Cumberland County.

Bridge of the Penn-York Valley Churches - Emergency Financial Assistance Vouchers

Provides vouchers for shelter for people facing eviction, needing a security deposit to secure housing, or needing overnight shelter. Provides utility vouchers for those in danger of having their gas, electric, or water turned off. Provides food vouchers for transients needing a meal after food bank hours. Provides transportation for those stranded and unable to get transportation out of the community. Other emergency situations or other monetary crises on a case-by-case basis.

Works with clients to place them into one of the emergency shelters in the area: Shalom House and The YWCA of Greater Harrisburg for women and children; The East Shore YMCA will, when space is available, accept referrals for single men who are able to continue paying the weekly fees after an initial payment provided by HELP.

Friends of the Poor and Catherine McAuley Center - Transitional Housing for Families Program

Operates a ten-unit scattered site transitional housing program for homeless women with or without children. Clients coming from the Center's Emergency Shelter or the Women's Resource Center Shelter receive rental assistance and supportive services while residing in scattered site apartments. Services include: case management, assistance in acquiring safe housing, rental and utilities assistance for up to 12 months, life Skills training and goal setting, furniture and household items, emergency food and clothing, art therapy, counseling and legal services, assistance with job training and education, linkages to community agencies, and recreational opportunities.

Family Promise Harrisburg Capital Region - Case Management for Homeless Families

Provides case management for families (parent[s] with children) dealing with homelessness. Families live at host congregations for one week at a time and rotate around to different churches in the area that provide shelter, three free meals a day, and often provide evening activities and fellowship for the guests. Each day, families are transported to the Day Center by the FPHCR bus where families can do laundry, shower, and get ready for school or work. Parents who are not working stay at the Day Center and work on job and housing searches. Each family meets weekly with a staff member at FPHCR for case management.
