Promotes awareness of elder abuse in the county, provides education and training to groups on how to identify, prevent and report elder abuse; and prosecute perpetrators of crimes against the elderly.

Provides protective services to the older adult population whom are at imminent risk of danger. The Office of Aging has the ability to accept Reports of Abuse, to investigate these reports; to assess the needs of clients at risk. The goal is to develop and coordinate the implementation of services designed to reduce or eliminate the risk of danger to the client’s person or property.

Receives reports concerning adults in need of protective services. A protective services worker will investigate reports received and take immediate steps to reduce any risks to the older adult.

Some of the services are: A) Home Delivered Meals: A meal is provided to functionally disabled, home-bound, or convalescent people age 60+ B) Personal Care Service: Provides personal grooming help - bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting and transferring C) Respite Care: Program designed to provide relief to the primary caregiver. Eligibility and hours will be determined in the assessment process D) Chore Service: Minor home repair may be possible when safety and necessary upkeep is required E) Protective Services: Reports of abuse can be made by calling 717-334-9296 or 800-548-3240 24 hours a day

Accepts 24/7 reports of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and abandonment involving care-dependent individuals age 18 and older. Investigations are provided to incapacitated older adults age 60 and older, unable to perform or obtain services that are necessary to maintain physical or mental health, for whom there is no responsible caretaker, and who are at imminent danger to person or property.

Assists individuals who are at risk because of abuse of any kind including emotional, mental or physical neglect, or financial exploitation. Agency addresses and/or investigate all cases of abuse.

Provides resources and support to prevent, detect, reduce, or eliminate self-neglect, neglect by a caregiver, or the physical, sexual, or psychological abuse, financial exploitation, or abandonment of older adults. If an older adult is in immediate danger, call 911.

Investigates confidential reports of abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, or abandonment of seniors. Services are initiated to protect victims, stop abuse, and prevent future incidents.
