Provides home-based services for expectant families and children ages birth to three, who meet eligibility requirements. Services include weekly home visits in the areas of health, nutrition, education, social services, and child development, as well as socializations. The home visits are conducted by a Certified Family Development Specialists for 90 minutes once a week.
Provides an Early Head Start program to infants and toddlers ages six weeks to three years old. Meals and diapers are provided.
Provides early, continuous and comprehensive year-round child development and family support services for income-eligible pregnant women, infants and toddlers through their 3rd birthday and their families. Head Start services address developmental goals for children, employment and self-sufficiency goals for adults, and support for parents in both their work and child care roles. Luzerne County Head Start’s Early Head Start (EHS) program is a weekly home visiting program that provides comprehensive child development and family support services to pregnant women, children age birth to age 3, and their families. EHS works to maximize the development of infants and toddlers by creating pathways for families to be successful. Once a child is 3-years-old, he or she may transition into center-based Head Start services or into another early childhood education program.
A free program for expectant mothers and families with infants and toddlers ages birth to 36 months who live in Northumberland County. Families enrolled in the home-based program participate in weekly home visits where information is provided for educational and developmental growth. To encourage social interaction, families are invited to attend the center twice a month where fun activities and a healthy snack are provided. Infants and toddlers in the program receive several health screenings within the first 45 days of enrollment, including vision, hearing and developmental screenings. Participantsâ medical and dental visits are tracked by a licensed practical nurse (LPN) on staff. Expectant mothers are visited weekly in the home where lessons are provided on health, nutrition and child development topics.
