Provides Early Head Start, which is often the first connection for pregnant people and families with children from birth up to 3 years old. Focuses on a child’s healthy development: How a child learns, grows, shares feelings, speaks, and makes friends. Helps each family understand their child’s growth, and set goals in their path forward. Offers services that include nutrition, safety, mental health, and education support.
Works with many community partners to promote quality early learning by collaborating and communicating with partners. Provides education and outreach to parents of small children. Supports school readiness/transition activities.

Early Head Start
Provides a preschool program for low-income children ages birth through five year olds. It provides children with a developmentally appropriate early childhood education. The program ensures that young children get health checkups and screenings, including vision and dental, that they are fed a nutritious hot meal every day and that they are working toward outcomes/developmental milestones. We also have a school-age program and offerings for teens/young adults. Our agency provides support to parents as well.

Provides comprehensive supports to expectant families and those with children under the age of 18 months including health education, developmental screenings for infants and toddlers, resources and referrals, care coordination, breastfeeding support, safe sleep education, and resources. Women can enroll pregnant or postpartum and in any pregnancy (first or subsequent).

Expectant/New Parent Assistance
Offers a home-based program that provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and social services based on the individual needs of the family. Home visitors, called Family Partners, make weekly home visits to provide services designed to enhance the child's physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development. Also coordinates monthly play groups.
Provides full-day, year-around child care and early childhood education, a nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack every weekday for the children, periodic home visits, access to high-quality health care services, and services for expectant moms before and after they give birth.
Provides early, continuous and comprehensive year-round child development and family support services for income-eligible pregnant women, infants and toddlers through their 3rd birthday and their families. Head Start services address developmental goals for children, employment and self-sufficiency goals for adults, and support for parents in both their work and child care roles. Curriculum for children aged 18 months to five(5) years of age. Includes standard structured learning of letters, numbers, colors, shapes, calendar activities, and library time. Creative play includes free choice of dramatic play, blocks, puzzles, table top activities, science and math centers. Nutritious state approved meals and snacks are included.

Luzerne County Head Start’s Early Head Start (EHS) program is a weekly home visiting program that provides comprehensive child development and family support services to pregnant women, children age birth to age 3, and their families. EHS works to maximize the development of infants and toddlers by creating pathways for families to be successful. Once a child is 3-years-old, he or she may transition into center-based Head Start services or into another early childhood education program.
