Comprehensive Job Assistance Centers
Works to reduce the rate of recidivism among people returning home from prison by providing immediate paid employment, skills, training, and ongoing career support.
Introduces returning citizens to the building trades and teaches the necessary skills to apply for a registered apprenticeship. Offers several cohorts throughout the year; each course runs for six weeks, four hours each weekday, totaling 120 hours. The program provides a paid stipend. Support group and mental health services available.
Provides transitional employment with an electronics waste recycling company to people returning from prison. Offers a supportive environment for learning marketable job skills and a network of individuals who work together toward self- and community improvement. After 6 to 9 months, assists participants with preparing applications for jobs in industries for which they are eligible. Works with employers willing to hire job-ready, returning citizens for full-time, gainful employment.
Provides services that include: A) Job Readiness (resume writing, Interviewing skills, etc.) B) GED Prep and Testing C) Job Training in High Priority D) Occupations (EX: HVAC, Electrical, CNA, Plumbing, Machine Operator, etc.) E) Supportive Services such as: Books, tools, boots, and uniforms provided for work and school, ID/Licenses, etc.

Southwestern Pennsylvania Re-entry Coalition was created by Mon Valley Initiative to coordinate resources for individuals whose criminal record creates barriers to self-sufficiency, through collaboration among agencies in Southwestern Pennsylvania. SPARC brings representatives from these participating organizations together to find the best way to provide formerly incarcerated individuals with the services and resources they need to successfully re-enter society and the workforce. SPARC currently works to: • Identify potential career paths for people re-entering the workforce (excluding those from which individuals with criminal backgrounds are banned by law) • Increase the number of employers willing to hire formerly incarcerated individuals through education about incentive programs • Address policy issues through information and advocacy
Provides intensive paid job training, paid transitional employment, and career development support for people who are often excluded from the workforce. The training and experience are in the environmental sector - planting trees, building trails, caring for green infrastructure, and other related projects.
