Osteoporosis is a gradual thinning and weakening of bones, which can lead to bone fractures. More than 10 million Americans, 80 percent of whom are women, have or are at risk of developing this condition. Since osteoporosis is often referred to as a "silent disease," many are less likely to find out they have it until they suffer a painful bone fracture. Two testing methods are available: 1) AccuDXA, which uses low dose X-ray to measure bone density of the middle finger of the non-dominant hand; or 2) Achilles Express, which uses ultrasound to measure bone density of the heel. For a free bone density screening call (717) 231-8900. For a full diagnostic DXA Scan, call (717) 230-3700 to schedule an appointment at any of our convenient locations on both the East and West Shores.
