Serves as the point of entry to services that protect children from abuse and neglect, preserve families whenever possible, and ensure that every child has a safe, stable, and permanent home in which to grow. Services include child protection services, foster services, and more.

Provides services to empower all families to provide love, shelter and protection for their children outside of any public agency.

Performs mandatory investigation of all reports of suspected physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and serious physical neglect.

Provides investigations about situations where there are concerns that children are being neglected or abused. Abuse can be physical, sexual, or emotional. Neglected children are children who are without proper parental care or control, or education as required by law.

Investigates reports of child abuse and neglect. Also provides education to prevent child abuse and neglect, temporary substitute placement for dependent children and youth, services to reunite dependent children with their families, and court-ordered care or supervision to alleged or adjudicated children and youth.

Assessment of abuse within 24 hours of reporting and immediate intervention if necessary; counseling to child and family; referral and assistance to keep family together; community education. Standby staff for emergencies.

Investigate reports, when appropriate, to address conditions which adversely affect a child's care. Works with families directly and also coordinate services with community resources to improve family conditions.

Provides child abuse and neglect investigations based on the definitions within the Child Protective Services Law. Provides in-home/protective services and placement services including foster care and residential.

Investigates state-registered reports of suspected abuse and/or neglect; provides referrals to appropriate services/community resources; assessment of non-registered (intake) referrals which may need to be registered as CPS investigation; CPS 24 hour courtesy interviews/contact for other counties; placement casework through court adjudication; acceptance of cases for services, develop Family Service Plans (FSPs), and refer and/or transfer for on-going services.

Accepts reports of child abuse/neglect in Westmoreland County. Provides in-home support to families when the Assessment Division determines that a family is in need of services After hours, or if a child is in imminent danger, call 911 to be referred to an on-call caseworker.

Provides 30-day residential services high in activities that enrich the youths’ social, emotional, and mental well-being. Youth will be closely supervised and mentored by staff members at all times.

Provides child protective services, caseworker assistance, counseling referrals, general investigation and research, and coordination with Mental Health services.

Protective Services works to safeguard children from abuse and serious neglect and implement the Child Protective Services Law. Investigate reports of child abuse and neglect.Assistance includes parental instruction and education, protective and preventive social counseling, emergency homemaker services, emergency shelter placement, emergency medical services and self-help groups.
