Accepts reports of child abuse/neglect in Westmoreland County. Provides in-home support to families when the Assessment Division determines that a family is in need of services After hours, or if a child is in imminent danger, call 911 to be referred to an on-call caseworker.

Children's Protective Services
Provides child abuse and neglect investigations based on the definitions within the Child Protective Services Law. Provides in-home/protective services and placement services including foster care and residential.
Provides individual and group counseling; recreational activities; advocacy services for children living in the Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing; liason service for children needing to enroll in or leave a school for safety purposes; referrals to other agencies and resources are also provided as needed. Provides child care during adult support group meetings, as well as for other activities such as court appearances when scheduled in advance.

Provides protective services to families in need of ongoing social services support and are unable to maintain a minimal level of medical care supervision and /or education for their child. Links families to resources such as housing, mental health,drug and alcohol treatment, parenting education and family counseling.

Services include Protective/Family support services, Independent Living program to prepare teenage foster children for life after foster care, Foster care, Adoption, Parenting education, and providing nformation and referrals to community services. All calls are confidential.

Child Abuse Prevention
Promotes the well being of children and their families. Reports involving abused, neglected, exploited, or truant/incorrigible children are investigated and in-home services are provided to families who meet Children and Youth legal criteria. Helps intervene in family disputes and crises; however, Children and Youth do not have the authority to determine, mediate, or change Court-ordered custody or visitation agreements. Government intervention is justified when the family cannot, or will not, provide for the child's safety and/or basic needs. Placement of a child by Children and Youth can only occur if ordered by the Juvenile Court.

Accepts reports (calls) 24 hours a day from any person, in accordance with Pennsylvania's Child Protective Services Law. The DHS Office of Children Youth and Families Intake Department also takes calls about suspected abuse and neglect. You may remain anonymous. CYF call screeners do not log telephone numbers. The call screener gathers the information and consults with their supervisor about whether to investigate. A supervisor looks at any available DHS and CYF data related to the child and family, assesses risk and safety and either screens out or chooses to investigate. If the child is unsafe, a caseworker is dispatched within two hours.
