This office is responsible for the administration of: Recorder of Wills, Recorder of Deeds, Marriage licenses, adoptions, relinquishments, settlements, guardianships, birth and death records (1893 through 1905), genealogy letters, deed and mortgage indexes.

Provides marriage licenses to the community.

Responsible for the probate of all estates for decedents dying in the County of Berks. Collects inheritance tax for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Issues marriage licenses. Maintains the dockets of all probate proceedings. Serves as Clerks of Orphans' Court. Maintains all records of adoptions and guardianship in the Orphans' Court division of the Court of Common Pleas. Serves as presiding officer in all probate hearings. Under special circumstances, the Register will perform probates and take marriage license applications in the home, assisted living facility or hospital of the citizen in need of our services.

The primary function of the Marriage License Bureau is taking application for and issuing marriage license to couples who plan to be married in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Marriage License Bureau archives all marriage licenses, issued in Lackawanna County from 1885 â to present day.

This York County Government Office for Row Officers oversees both the Clerk of Orphan's Court and the Register of Wills. Orphan's Court:(717)771-9288 and Wills':(717) 771-9607 The duties of the Clerk of Orphans' Court include: filing petitions for incapacitated persons and petitions for the appointment of guardians for minors, petitions for adoptions (which records are confidential), the granting of marriage licenses, and records of births and deaths from 1893 through 1906. This office is also responsible in assisting the Judge of Orphans' Court during court proceedings as well as the documents pertaining to those proceedings. As register of wills, this office has jurisdiction over the probate of wills and the granting of letters of testamentary and letters of administration to persons properly

Both applicants for a marriage license must appear together. If one or both of the parties were married before proof must be provided of how the prior marriage was dissolved: Date of death or a copy of the final Divorce decree. The license is only valid in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
