The Register and Recorder's office is responsible for filing place all land transfers, wills, adoptions, military discharges, and providing marriage licenses. Documents are available to the public and copies can be made.

The primary function of the Marriage License Bureau is taking application for and issuing marriage license to couples who plan to be married in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Marriage License Bureau archives all marriage licenses, issued in Lackawanna County from 1885 â to present day.

Official recorder of deeds, mortgages, power of attorneys, satisfaction pieces, oil leases, ordinances, assignments and releases of mortgage. This office is responsible for the administration of: Recorder of Wills, Recorder of Deeds, Marriage licenses, adoptions, relinquishments, settlements, guardianships, birth and death records (1893 through 1905), genealogy letters, deed and mortgage indexes.

Both applicants for a marriage license must appear together. If one or both of the parties were married before proof must be provided of how the prior marriage was dissolved: Date of death or a copy of the final Divorce decree. The license is only valid in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Orphans Court

• Issues marriage licenses
• Provides applications to persons wishing to obtain copies of birth certificates
• Handles all adoption proceedings. Adoptions are sealed and held in closed court
• Settle estates of minors and incapacitated persons

Probates wills of the deceased. Appoints personal representatives for deceased residents. Collects inheritance taxes. Handles applications for marriage licenses, adoption filings, and guardianship filings.

Oversees both the Clerk of Orphans' Court and the Register of Wills. The duties of the Clerk of Orphans' Court include: filing petitions for incapacitated persons and petitions for the appointment of guardians for minors, petitions for adoptions (which records are confidential), the granting of marriage licenses, and records of births and deaths from 1893 through 1906. This office is also responsible for assisting the Judge of Orphans' Court during court proceedings, as well as the documents pertaining to those proceedings. As register of wills, this office has jurisdiction over the probate of wills and the granting of letters of testamentary and letters of administration.

Oversees Northampton County operations, including administration/human resources, economic development, corrections, court services, fiscal affairs, human services, public works, and the offices of the Coroner, Public Defender, Sheriff.

Responsible for the probate of all estates for decedents dying in the County of Berks. Collects inheritance tax for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Issues marriage licenses. Serves as presiding officer in all probate hearings. Under special circumstances, the Register will perform probates and take marriage license applications in the home, assisted living facility or hospital of the citizen in need of our services.

Clerk of Orphans Court process Marriage License applications. Passport and Birth Certificate Information.

Provides general information regarding the following: Marriage Licenses, Recording of Deeds, Register of Wills, Voter Registration and Elections, Waste, Tax Assessments, Dog License, Passports, Prothonotary, Clerk of Courts, Probation, Court, District Attorney.

Provides marriage licenses to the community. The Department of Court Records also offers an online search and order service for marriage records it holds.

Consists of the County Council, which is the governing legislative body, and the County Executive, who oversees county operations, including administration/ human resources, economic development, corrections, court services, fiscal affairs, human services, public works, and the offices of the Coroner, Public Defender, Sheriff, and Solicitor.
