Services include: EFSP: Federal funding providing emergency heating assistance to individuals with the cost of one month's usage of fuel oil or propane or one month's usage of a past due/current utility bill (water or electric). ESG: Funding for individuals and families facing an eviction, shut-off notice (water or electric), living in a shelter or other place not meant for human habitation.

Provides financial assistance in the form of first month, past due and damage deposit rental assistance to individuals or families.
Helps a homeless or near homeless family/individual to: stop eviction from your home/apartment or foreclosure of your house; find a long-term place to live; find a short-term place to stay. Provides a one-time payment up to $400 to prevent eviction or $100-$300 to obtain temporary or permanent shelter. There is no monthly rental assistance or subsidy available. Need must be the result of an emergency such as eviction, living in hazardous conditions, homeless or near homeless. If more funds are owed than CAO can offer are required to prevent or resolve the emergency, the applicant must have another way to pay the remainder due. The individual or family must have sufficient income to afford future rent. Items are verified with landlord/employer, etc.

Provides funding for those living in Cumberland County who are at risk of becoming homeless. Homeless Prevention assists those who have housing right now, but who may become homeless soon because they lost income or had another eligible emergency that prevents them from paying rent. ASSISTANCE MAY INCLUDE: A) Payment of rent arrears to prevent eviction. B) Utility shut offs C) Security deposits for housing D) First month's rent for housing E) Assistance covering the cost of housing applications F) Pay for transportation to confirmed location with support to avoid street homelessness G) Assistance with bedding and toiletry supplies if experiencing homelessness ***All support is based on household qualifications. Through these programs, our vision at Community CARES is to equip individuals and families to build independent, healthy, and stable lives, through emergency shelters and supportive programming.
Provides a complete intake for each household to determine what is needed to assist the emergency financial crisis. Referrals will be made and financial assistance may be given depending on need and availability of funds.

Assists with the transition from homelessness through the PATH program. Provides rental assistance, including one month of back rent to prevent eviction. Offers security deposit assistance for a new residence. PATH cannot assist with payment if more than one month of back rent is owed.
Contingency funds are financial supports used to assist with rents, security deposits, household items and some unique needs, such as arrears and utilities. Funds are capped at $1,000.00. Potential clients need to make a prior appointment before coming to the office.
